DD earns Rs. 1806 crores
New Delhi: July 24, 2003

Doordarshan earned a commercial revenue of Rs. 637.51 crores for 2000-2001, Rs. 615.21 crores for 2001-2002 and Rs. 553.81 crores for 2002-2003. Doordarshan does not earn any profit since its expenditure is at least three times more than its revenue.

This was stated by the Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad in a written reply to Shri Sunder Lal Tiwari and Shri Satyavrat Chaturvedi in Lok Sabha today.

In reply to another question, Shri Prasad said that according to the National Readership Survey-2002, the viewership for DD-I and DD-II in all TV homes is much higher as compared to other channels.

The viewership figures are DD-I (50%), DD-II (20%), Star Plus (16%), Sony (14%) and Zee (13%).
