ALL INDIA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX NUMBER FOR INDUSTRIAL WORKERS INCREASES
New Delhi: January 3, 2003 The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 1982=100 for the month of November 2002 has increased by 2 points to stand at 489 (four hundred & eighty nine). The increase in index is mainly due to rise in prices of Rice, Groundnut Oil, Mustard Oil, Onion, Kerosene Oil etc. All India Consumer Price Index Number for November, 2001 had increased by 4 points. During the month Tiruchirapally centre has experienced the maximum increase of 13 points which is mainly on account of rise in prices of Rice, Groundnut Oil, Onion, Vegetables & Fruits, Flower Garlands etc. Whereas, Durgapur centre has experienced the maximum decrease of 8 points. The decrease in index is due to decline in prices of Cereals, Moong Dal, Fish Fresh, Vegetables & Fruits, Clothing Items etc. However, the index remained stationary in 8 centres viz. Guwahati, Mariani-Jorhat, Hyderabad. Ranchi-Hatia, Varanasi, Bhavnagar, Mundakayam and Srinagar. The index in respect of six main centres during November, 2002 stands at the following level:-
The point to point rate of inflation, based on the CPI-IW has decreased from 4.06% in October, 2002 to 3.60% in November, 2002. In November, 2001 it was 4.89%. The Rise/Fall in index varies from centre to centre. In 40 centres increase in index was noticed between 1 to 13 points, in 8 centres it remained constant and in 22 centres it recorded a decrease of 1 to 8 points when compared to the previous month.
