Letter to Editor - Ajit Jogi trapped in BJP net
December 12, 2003

It refers to the then acting Chief Minister of Chhatisgarh Ajit Jogi artistically trapped by BJP in his own designed net! It is blessing in disguise for general public that rival politicians are unmasking each other’s corrupt faces which otherwise cannot be exposed in our system affected with deep rooted virus of corruption. Since currency is the basic tool for corruption, Union Government must immediately announce drastic measures to transform currency circulation in banking transaction in a manner people may find excess currency as ‘paper’ of no practical use. In addition to reform anti-defection rules, it may be enacted to elect Prime Minister and Chief Ministers by secret vote on nominations signed by at least one third MPs/ MLAs with no-bargain power to induce maximum ten-percent ministers of total strength of the House. Such an elected leader may only be removed by secret vote on no-confidence motion signed by at least one-third members with compulsion to name alternate leader in the same motion.

All expenses above Rs 1000 may be allowed only if paid by cheques. Currency tax at 30-percent can be imposed on all sale-purchases exceeding say Rs 20000 even though payment is made in parts but in cash. Cash withdrawals exceeding Rs 20000 from a bank-account in a single day may be on special forms to be reported to IT authorities and auditors mentioning reasons. Drafts/ Pay-orders must have names and addresses/ account-numbers of purchasers with reduced validity period of 45 days to check their misuse as carriers of black money. All bills of necessities like telephone, electricity, water, municipal-taxes etc above Rs 1000 must be paid by cheques/ drafts only.

But virus of corruption being deep-rooted in our system, billion-dollar question is who will bell the cat when even law-makers are involved in law-breaking corrupt-deals!
