Railway freight exceeds target during April-July 2003
New Delhi: August 18, 2003

The Railways transported 178.63 Million Tonnes (MTs) of revenue freight during the current financial year ending July 2003 as compared to 166.58 MT during the corresponding period of the previous year, thus, recording an increase of 12.05 MT. This was higher by 4.48 MT than the target of 174.15 MT for the period.

The performance of revenue freight traffic in excess of the target is indicative of the buoyancy in the core sector of national economy.

During July 2003, railways carried 45.46 MT revenue freight in excess of the target of 44.05 MT for the month, recording an increase of 1.41 MT. This was higher by 2.29 MT over the corresponding month in 2002, when railways transported 43.17 MT.
