Strengthening of Rail Network
New Delhi: August 21, 2003

Indian Railways is exploring possibilities of forging partnerships with State Governments, multilateral agencies and lending institutions in funding of rail infrastructure projects. It is primarily through cost sharing, participation in equity in case of implementation through creation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). Build-Own-Transfer (BOT) models and in some cases privately owned infrastructure viz. port railways, freight terminals. Share of State Governments in some of the on-going projects is one-third to two-third of the total project costs providing additional resources for completion of the projects.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya in a written reply to a question from Shrimati Shyama Singh and four other Members in the Lok Sabha today.
