Revision in Fare Structure
New Delhi: August 14, 2003

The passenger fares and freight rates are adjusted from time to time to generate internal resources to meet the rising costs of inputs and the developmental needs of the Railways.

The prices of High Speed Diesel, which were increasing in the past, have recently shown a downward trend. No increase in the fares and freight rates was proposed during the year 2003-2004 despite increase in the diesel prices. At present, there is no proposal to reduce the passenger fares due to reduction in diesel prices.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya in a written reply to a question from Shri Shivaji Vithalrao Kamble in the Lok Sabha today.
