National Renewable Energy Policy
New Delhi: August 14, 2003

The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources had prepared a Draft Renewable Energy Policy Statement for accelerated development of renewable energy sources in the country.

The objectives of the Policy Statement are to enhance the contribution of renewable viz. solar, wind, bio-mass and small hydro for meeting rural energy needs, providing decentralized/off-grid supply for agriculture, industry, commercial and household sectors in rural and urban areas; and, grid quality power generation and supply.

The draft of the Policy Statement has been submitted by the Ministry for further approvals. The approvals have not yet been accorded.

This information was given by Shri M. Kannappan, Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources, in a written reply to a question by Dr. N. Venkataswamy in Lok Sabha today.
