Medical Certificate to handicapped persons
New Delhi: August 21, 2003

For Orthopaedically handicapped/paraplegic persons, the concession certificate is valid for (i) five years for persons upto 25 years of age, (ii) ten years for persons from 26 to 35 years of age and (iii) whole life for persons above 35 years of age. For Deaf and Dumb, Blind and Mentally Retarded persons, the certificate is valid for five years. After these mentioned periods, fresh concession certificate is required to be obtained.

Concessional rail tickets are issued directly at the stations on production of a copy of the requisite concession certificate in prescribed form issued by the prescribed authority. The original certificate is required to be produced for inspection if demanded at the time of purchasing ticket and during journey.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya in a written reply to a question from Shri Manibhai Ramjibhai Chaudhri in the Lok Sabha today.
