Diversification of crops
New Delhi: August 19, 2003

The Centre is advising State Governments to undertake diversification programmes for substituting traditional crops with suitable crops. Thrust is being given on oilseeds and pulses. In order to increase production and productivity of oilseeds and pulses, two centrally sponsored schemes namely, Oilseeds Production Programme (OPP) and National Pulses Development Project (NDPD) are being implemented in various states. Under both these schemes, financial assistance is provided on production and distribution of seeds, distribution of seed minikits, distribution of improved farm implements, sprinkler sets and micro-nutrients, etc. In order to disseminate production technology among farmers, frontline demonstrations are organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research . Demonstrations are also organized by the State Departments of agriculture.
