Four Year Old Baby Akhila needs AB Rh Negative voluntary blood donors

Operation delayed over a month due to shortage of blood
New Delhi: August 5, 2003

A four year old baby Varthya Akhila from Khammam needs AB Negative voluntarty blood donors for heart surgery. Daughter of a police constable Phirulal Jadhav, working at Madira in Khammam District, baby Akhila was born with the heart problem and needs six to seven units to be operated at the earliest. However, her operation is postponed for the last one month due to the shortage of AB negative blood donors.

The donors willing to travel to Vijayawada to donate blood need to get in touch immediately with baby’s uncle Mr. Murali on Tel: 040-23059136 / 24242018. All the expenses for the travel will be born by the patient’s family. The family had already searched for the donors in Miryalaguda, their native place and Vijayawada but in vain. They got tested 40 of their relatives, but, none of them found to be AB negative.

Hymavathi, mother of the child is AB negative but she doesn’t have sufficient amount of haemoglobin in her blood. Baby Akhila needs 6 to 7 units of blood. She will be operated by Dr. Kodali Kishore Babu at City Cordiac and Research Centre at Vijayawada. Operation will be sheduled by as soon as the blood donors are found.

The family members of the baby have approached the publishers of blood donors directory with the small baby for help. And they have already collected contact details of about 50 such donors. While some of them were willing to donate blood others are unable to do so, due to their personal reasons. Hence, this appeal. Interested donors are requested to get in touch directly with the baby’s uncle Mr. Murali on Tel: 23059136 / 24242018.

Making an appeal on behalf of the family members of the baby, Concern For Twin Cities, the organisation which has been helping people with the information of blood donors in an hour need and crisis, said AB Rh Negative is a very rare blood that only one per cent of population has this group. Hence, requested people to come forward and help the needy generously.

Concern is in the process of publishing a directory of blood donors to be released soon with over 5000 donor contact details.
