MALDIVES SEEKS INDIA'S HELP FOR ALLROUND DEVELOPMENT.

Maldives has sought India's help for all-round develoment. Matters relating to this were discussed at a meeting between the two sides headed by the visiting Maldivian Minister for Human Resource Development Labour and Employment Mr. Abdullah Kamaludeen and the Minister for Human Resource Development and Science and Technology Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi here yesterday. Dr. Joshi assured him that India has the expertise to help develop the island nation.

The areas in which Maldives sought India's help include Distance Education National Open School System training of teachers development of IT infrastructure fisheries Agriculture protection of bio-diversity including coastline development identification development and protection of its herbal and medicinal plants. Mr. Kamaludeen told Dr. Joshi that the concerned Maldivian Ministers would discuss proposals in this regard.

As far as educational ties are concerned Dr. Joshi told him that India has kept 15 per cent seats for foreign students in various disciplines. He also told him that India can provide everything on a cost-effective basis and suiting the requirements of the island nation. Under a recently renewed agreement between the Governments of the two countries the Educational Consultants India Ltd(EdCIL) will be arranging admission of Maldivian students in specially tailor-made courses in Indian Institutions.
