August 31, 2001 Former MP and Veteran Freedom fighter Mr. Kasinadhuni Nageswara Rao died in Machilipatnam. He is aged 99 and is survived with 2 sons and 5 daughters. August 17, 2001 Trains rescheduled for construction works The South Central Railway announced cancellation to some of its services in the Chennai-Guntur section as it is taking up construction of a pedestrian subway on August 19, 2001. Due to this some trains are reschedules while some more are being cancelled. August 15, 2001 7 persons died in various road accidents in Vijayawada. While 3 of them are Government employees, the other 4 belong to the same family. August 9, 2001 Power was cut in areas of Vijayawada and Hyderabad for about 12 hrs when the Power Production was stopped due to a technical snag at the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station. July 25, 2001 Vijayawada Police has arrested 5 persons in connection with printing and distribution of fake currency notes. These 5 people were believed to be belonging to Guntur and West Godavari districts. June 26, 2001 Two fake naxals were arrested by the Vijayawada Police. The fake naxals called up a city based contractor and asked demanded to bring money. The Contractor called up the police who arrested the fake naxals. June 25, 2001 Senior Artist Sri Nandoorui Subbarao died in Vijayawada at about 10 AM. He is 79 and is survived with a wife and two daughters. Sri Subba Rao is a Comedian, Playwriter, Author and Actor in stage Dramas and is associated with Aakasavani for many years. June 22, 2001 Students of the Government Ayurvedic College in Vijayawada went on strike demanding for the immediate transfer of its principal and provision of Hostel facilities. June 11, 2001 Baby V J Surekha has setup a record by becoming the youngest girl to cross the River Krishna thrice. She completed the task by 3 hours 6 minutes and 20 seconds. The previous record was at 2 hours 4 minutes set by another 4 ½ yrs girl. June 8, 2001 Senior Citizens disrupted the Grama Sabha Programme held at Potti Sreeramulu Municipal Highschool in the 49th Ward in Vijayawada demanding for old age pensions. June 1, 2001 Dalit Christians staged demonstration at the Vijayawada Catholic Diocese demanding for the appointment aof a dalit as the Bishop. May 27, 2001 Kakinada Police has arrested 2 persons who were involved in manufacture of Oil Packets with lesser weight than that of printed on the label. About Rs. 1 Crore worth Oil Packets were seized from them. May 26, 2001 Vijayawada Police has arrested a gang involved in selling of girls in redlight area of Mumbai. May 25, 2001 One person died on the spot when fire broke off in a bus in Vijayawada. The bus belonging to Sri Krishna Travels caught fire when two of its gas cylinders blasted at the same time all of a sudden. May 20, 2001 The Vijayawada Police arrested 4 people in connection with selling of Kidneys and other human organs. The police said that it seems these people are actually brokers and have links with Doctors and Nursing Homes. It is believed that these people sold organs to Chennai and Delhi based people.
