August 20, 2003 CM inaugurates rail projects Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu laid the stone for Tirupati-Katpadi Railway line electrification project and doubling of Tirupati - Renigunta line. He also inaugurated DMU Train service between Tirupati - Katpadi. He said that the Chitoor Railway station will be modernized to make it into a model station. August 19, 2003 Forest Department of Tirupati seized a lorry carrying illegal sandal wood load worth Rs. 4 lakhs. The Driver and Cleaner of the lorry escaped from the spot. August 18, 2003 Supporters of Congress and CPM rallied in Tirupati against introduction of GO's that were causing inconvenience to people. Local leader Chinta Mohan said that the Government is creating and then solving problems in the wake of the upcoming elections. July 27, 2003 Special APSRTC busses from Tirumala The Tirupati Region of APSRTC said it will be running special busses from Tirupati and Chitoor. The busses will begin at 3 PM every during July 27 and August 10. June 25, 2003 TTD begins road repair works Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam began road development works at the Ghat Road at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crores. Permanent structures were built instead of the temporary rock arrangements. Iron sheds were built to allow vehicles to take rest. June 14, 2003 ICET 2003 Results announced Sri Venkateswara University which was the host for the ICET 2003 examination for admission to various MBA and MCA courses by Universities in Andhra Pradesh released the results of the examination today. Of the 62,728 candidates who registered, 59,686 appeared and 56,699 qualified. The qualifying rate is 95%. 96.24 of girls and 94.47 of boys got qualified in the examination. As per the new code, women are expected to ware the traditional Saree or Chudidar while Men can ware Dhoti or Panche.This new rule is also expected to put security problems on hold. This rule is earlier applicable only for Purabhisekharm and Kalyanam and is now extended to Archana and Tomalaseva Services at the temple. May 28, 2003 Nearly 30 people were injured when a RTC bus hit a section of the hill on its way to Tirumala from Tirupati. Another jeep (Tata Sumo) and a bus who were behind the first RTC bus also hit from behind. The injured were rushed to hospitals in Tirupati. May 16, 2003 50 falls ill to polluted water in Tiruchanur 50 people fell ill drinking polluted water in Tiruchanur. The patients were admitted in Tirupathi and Tiruchanur Government Hospitals while admitted in private hospitals in Tirupathi. Water from the newly installed bore wells is believed to be the reason for the sudden illness. Medical authorities distributed Chlorine tablets. May 8, 2003 Zoo Advisory Committee visits Tirupati Zoo The Zoo Advisory Committee that visited and checked the facilities of Tirupati Zoo Park. The committee felt the lacking of proper transport system to the Zoo Park and recommended the installation of an electric rail inside the zoo park to lure customers. May 6, 2003 The Weeklong Gangamma Jaatara in Tirupati will begin with Chaatimpu program tonight at the temple. Thousands of devotees from various parts of the state are already arriving to take darshan of the Ammavaaru. May 5, 2003 PCC President interacts with Tirupati farmers PCC President Mr. M Satyanarayana Rao said that free power to agricultural farmers will given to enable farmers to give water for high level areas when Congress comes to power. He interacted with farmers in Tirupati. MSR supporterd CLP Leader YSR's Paada yatra and said that he will call upon district wise leaders and bridge gap to minimize differences among them. May 3, 2003 Forest Department targeting Rs. 88 Crores for the year Minister for Forests Mr. Ch Ayyannapatrudu said that the target for the next year from the Forest Department in collection revenue is set at Rs. 88 Crores. He asked his Department members to work towards this by making the necessary planning at Tirupati.
