TDP Candidate for the Amalapuram constituency and the widow of former Lok Sabha speaker - Ms. Vijaya Kumari won the election with a margin of 313657 votes.

Poor turnout at Amalapuram Lok Sabha bypoll
The Bypoll at Amalapuram for the Lok Sabha election turned out to be peaceful with a poor poll turnout. With Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi - widow of former Lok Sabha Speaker Sri GMC Balayogi in fray, the election looked out to be unanimous. The overall percentage of poll was 39.1% when compared to previous turnout's which were over 70%.

Wife of Former Lok Sabha Speaker - Ms. G Vijaya Kumari files nominations
Wife of Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Sri GMC Balayogi - Ms. G Vijaya Kumari filed nomination for the Lok Sabha as a Telugu Desam Candidate from the Amalapuram Lok Sabha Constituency. She filed the nomination at 11:15 AM at the Municipal Office. Meanwhile, Congress Spokesman Sri Jaipal Reddy said in Delhi that TDP has asked Congress Leader Ms. Sonia Gandhi not to put a candidate for the Amalapuram Lok Sabha seat and thus Congress is not putting a candidate as a respect to the departed Lok Sabha Leader.

In a twist of Politics, the sister of departed Lok Sabha Speaker Sri GMC Balayogi, Mrs. Bonthu Suryakantham filed nominations for the Lok Sabha elections from Amalapuram. She field two sets of nominations - one as a TDP candidate while another as an Independent. Bonthu Ramesh Babu, nephew of Sri Balayogi filed three sets of nominations - one as a TDP candidate while another two as an Independent candidate.
