BJP President, Mr. M Venkiah Naidu took part as Chief Guest in the closing day of the BJP Meet at Bhimavaram. Speaking on the occasion, he mentioned the election ordinance and said that the Election Commission should start the elections in Gujarat since the current position is peaceful in the state.

CLP Leader Dr. Y S Rajasekhar Reddy demanded for action by the Police Department on the suspects in the recent transfer of food grains in a lorry which was meant for the Food-for-Work program in East Godavari.

The 220 KV Sub-Station at Bommuru near Rajahmundry was caught on fire in the early hours of the day. Two 132 KV Transformers were burnt. Over half-a-dozen fire brigades were deployed to bring the fire under control.

Farmers in East Godavari tried to be violent when they tried to enter into the Zilla Parishad office when meeting was going on. The farmers demanded for immediate water at least to 400 cubic cm levels for their crop from the Eluru canal. The police tried to restrict the farmers from entering but their efforts failed.

Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad was selected as the venue for International Chess Championships that are scheduled to begin from October 9. This was announced by the Indian Chess Federation President Mr. N Srinivas. Members of the Federation also met Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu and asked for the support of the State Government.

A fire accident in Kakinada left 300 houses of Lakshmi Nagar and Sameer Nagar into ashes and brought a loss of Rs. 30 Lakhs of property leaving 500 homeless. The accident happened when one women tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene over her and her fire caught houses nearby.
