Chitoor mayor Katari Anuradha murdered

Chitoor City Municipal Corporation Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Mohan were murdered by three unknown assailants today. The Mayor and her husband were in her chamber when three people, believed to be from Karnataka, opened fire at them and attacked with knives. The couple were shifted to hospital by the two town police. Mayor Anuradha was declared dead on arrival, while her husband is said to be in serious condition. Katari Anuradha is a politician belonging to the Telugu Desam Party.

Mohan was shifted to Veluru CMC for better treatment.

Assailants came wearing a burka

It was learnt that the assailants came in disguise to the mayor's office wearing a burkha. They were sent to the mayor's chamber to submit their grievance as it was grievance day in the Municipal Corporation today. They opened two rounds of fire at the mayor and attacked her husband with knives. Amid the chaos, the staff who are near the mayor's chamber ran in fear. The assailants escaped by climbing over the gates.

The police believe that an old rivalry may be the reason for the attack.

Preliminary information says that three gang members barged into the Mayor chamber where Katari Mohan was also there open fire at them and later attacked with knifes. The trio were said to have escaped after the attack.

Alerted police deployed armed forces at all important points in the town to avert any untoward incident. Reports said that two persons have surrendered before be police.

It may be recalled here that Katari Mohan is the prime accused in the attempt to murder on former Chittoor MLA C.K. Jayachandra Reddy alias C.K. Babu. A decade ago, C.K. Babu escaped in the attack, while two of his gunmen were killed in the attack.

Karati Mohan is in serious condition:: Souces said that Karati Mohan is in very serious condition abd us undergoing treatment at CMC Hospital at Vellore.

Chief Minister condemns: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu condemned the murder of Katari Anuradha and an attempt on her husband Katari Mohan today. He said that his government will not let any culprits in the case. Meanwhile, Ministers Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy and Home Minister Chinarajappa rushed to Chittoor.

Six assailants wearing Burkas with bouquets in hands entered into the Mayor’s chamber. At the time of the incident, there were nearly 8 Corporators along with Katari Mohan husband of Mayor Anuradha. They removed their burkas and fired at a point range on the Mayor. The bullets hit her on eye and on fore head. She collapsed immediately. They attacked Katari Mohan with knives. He was shifted immediately to Government General Hospital Chittoor and from there to Christian Medical Hospital, Vellore.

Chittoor Superintendent of Police Srinivasulu said that they will nab the accused shortly. He said that five persons were involved in the entire operation. The police seized a rifle, 3.2 weapon and swords.

Police suspect the hands Chintu, brother-in-law of Katari Mohan as the prime suspect. One Venkatesh, Venkata Chalapati, Reddappa and Munjunath have extended their hands in the operation.

The sniffer dogs went near to the office of Chintu. Sources said that there were property disputes between Chintu and Mohan. Chintu who studied M.Tech has a criminal background and also an accused in 2004 murder case. There were several police cases filed against him earlier, said sources.

Sources said that Anuradha has written a letter to the SP seeking police protection following a life threat from Chintu. The security staff of her was on leave today and the CC cameras installed in the Corporation office was disfunctioning.
