Centre gives green signal for establishing IIM in Visakhapatnam

The Central Cabinet Committee meeting that we held on today under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given green signal for establishing of Indian Institute of Managements in the State.

Speaking to media after the meeting, the Union Minister for IT and Telecommunications Ravi Prasad announced of the same.

The new IIMs to come up are:

1. Visakhapatnam - Andhra Pradesh.
2. Bodh Gaya – Bihar
3. Sirmaur – Himachal Pradesh
4. Nagpur – Maharashtra
5. Sambalpur – Odisha
6. Amritsar – Punjab

It may be recalled here that the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani laid the foundation stone for IIM-Visakhapatnam at Gambheeram village near Visakhapatnam on January 17, 2015 in presence of Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu and AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and others. Admissions to IIM-Visakhapatnam are open from the academic year 2015-16. The IIM-Bangalore is the mentor institution for the IIM-V. The classes for the IIM-V would be conducted from temporary premises on the Andhra University campus till the infrastructure is established on the over 300 acre campus coming up on the city outskirts. The IIM-V is the first of the Central premier institutions to be established in the State of Andhra Pradesh under the provisions of the AP Reorganization Act 2014.
