New District for the State was put on hold due to lack of funds

August 17, 2014 - Hyderabad

The new 14th District to be named after Alluri Sitaramaraju has been put on hold due to lack of funds on one side and not to invite unnecessary controversy over the organization of districts.

It may be recalled that the State Government came up with a proposal for formation of a new district exclusively with the Agency areas from East and West Godavari and 11 Polavaram project-affected mandals including seven from Khammam district of Telangana that were recently merged in Andhra Pradesh with Rampachodavaram as its headquarters.

A proposal was floated for carving out a new district with the headquarters at Rampachodavaram within the proximity to all tribal villages. There was also another proposal to make Polavaram as district headquarters. The non-tribal population with a strong base in the government is opposing the proposal as it would become an obstacle for their growth according to sources.
