'23 per cent of contesting candidates for Assembly have criminal records', says ADR

According to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a substantial number of candidates contesting for the Assembly in the State have criminal records.

ADR said that 225 (25%) of the candidates contesting have criminal record while 141 (14%) of them face grave criminal charges like murder, kidnapping and crimes against women.

TRS ranks first followed by TDP

It said that Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) ranks list with the top with 62 candidates (52%) followed by TDP with 28 candidates (39%), 34 (30%) candidates from Congress, 15 candidates (33%) from BJP and 21 candidates (23%) from YSRCP.

Two candidates from Nakerkal constituency comes under the category of murder, 16 candidates have declared cases relating to attempting to murder while six candidates related to crimes against women. ADR said that there are 33 constituencies where at least three candidates have declared criminal cases with the Uppal constituency stood first with the maximum number of seven candidates with criminal records.
