January 15, 2014 - Chittoor
Following a complaint based in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's Vigilance Inspector, police on Wednesday registered cases against devotees for staging dharnas in Tirumala on Vaikunta Ekadasi day.
The act of TTD slapping police cases against devotes is the first time in the history of Tirumala. A case has been registered under Section 341 on the devotees for staging a protest at the TTD Chairman K Bapiraju's camp office. It may be recalled here that the infuriated devotees waiting for long hours for the darshan of Lord Venkateswara staged a protest denouncing the black marketering of the VIP darshan passes which were sold at exorbitant rates. They also questioned the non-issuance of Rs.300 special darshan tickets.
GO prohibits protests atop the Hill
Two town police Station House Officer said that in accordance to the GO No.746, all kinds of dharnas and protests are prohibited atop of the hill. The identity of the devotees was established based on the video footage, said the police officer.
