Ten persons killed and 18 rescued in an 11 storeyed building crash

In Mugalivakkam building collapse incident in Chennai, rescue teams have retrieved ten dead bodies. National Disaster Response Force DIG S P Selvan said that 18 persons have been rescued and are being treated at two hospitals. He said that 17 persons are being treated at Porur hospital while one at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. He said that the exact number of persons trapped under the debris is not known but said that the rescue and relief operations may take two or three days’ time.
Tamil Nadu government announces Rs.2 lakhs ex-gratia
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha said that they rescued 21 persons who were under the debris. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakhs to those killed and Rs.50,000 to the injured.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister announces Rs.5 lakhs ex-gratia
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting at his official residence and directed the State Minister K Mrunalini to rush to the accident spot. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakhs to kith and kin of those killed in the accident. An amount of Rs.50,000 will be paid to those injured. Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju is likely to visit Chennai in a day to participate in the rescue and relief operations.<

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Sunday visited a hospital in Porur where the injured are undergoing treatment. She said that there were a total of 72 persons inside the building at the time of collapse and 20 of them are women. She said that 31 people have been pulled out of the debris while 11 persons died.
