'Telangana Government decision on Fee reimbursement is illegal and unconstitutional', says Kishore Babu

Minister for Social Welfare R Kishore Babu said on Wednesday that the decision of Telangana Government to extend the fee reimbursement to only local students whose parents belonged to Telangana is illegal and unconstitutional.
Kishore Babu said that it is against the provisions of the AP State Reorganization Act, 2014. He added that if the Telangana Government goes ahead with the Government order, Andhra Pradesh Government will not hesitate to take legal recourse. He said that the Act clearly stated that the admission in educational institutions would continue as was in the United State of Andhra Pradesh for the next ten years to all the students in the successor States. Students need not have fears over this, he said.
The Social Welfare Minister giving data said that prior to bifurcation, 28.25 lakh students benefited under the post-matric scholarships scheme including 5.64 lakh SCs, 1.97 lakh STs, 14.83 lakh BCs and 3.62 lakh EBCs. For the current academic year, the burden on Telangana Government on account of 48,000 students would be Rs.151 crore and Andhra Pradesh Government has to extend fee reimbursement to the tune of Rs.55 crore to 254,000 students belonging to Telangana.
