August 16, 2014 - Hyderabad
Telugu TV9 Channel Chief Executive Officer Ravi Prakash was arrested and was released on bail by the LB Nagar police on Saturday.
It may be recalled that a court has directed the police to register a case against him following a petition by an advocate S Janardhan Reddy who sought a direction of action against Ravi Prakash for showing Telangana MLAs in poor light. The petitioner alleged that the channel in its ‘Bullet News’ programme aired on June 12 made derogatory comments on Telangana MLAs.
The LB Nagar police booked a case under Sections 504 and 505 of IP C and Sections 4A and 6 of Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. The CEO moved for an anticipatory bail but was not granted. However, it directed him to surrender before lower court or police with 15 days of the order and accordingly, he was formally arrested but released on bail as per court directive. He furnished two sureties each of Rs.20,000 and a personal bond of Rs.25,000.
Meanwhile the Associated Broadcasting Company Ltd., (ABC) that promotes the bouquet of TV9 channels in different channels has tendered an apology to the Telangana State Federation of MSOs . ‘We hereby convey our apologies unconditionally to your association also and request you to resume our network signals to the subscribers’, the letter from the ABC said.
