TDP plans to give vacant Rajya Sabha seat to BJP

June 3, 2014 - Hyderabad

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu hinted of giving the vacant Rajya Sabha seat following the demise of Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy of Congress to BJP.

Sources said that Chandrababu Naidu reportedly disclosed this to the newly elected MPs along with the party's Rajya Sabha members who met in Hyderabad to elect the parliamentary party leaders and floor leaders of both the Houses of Parliament. The MPs have authorised the party president to make appointments.

Chandrababu told to party MPs that the BJP has requested the party to allot the vacant Rajya Sabha seat and the party had to oblige it since it was part of NDA. TDP leaders said it was likely to be given to Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry.

The meeting also dwelt on issues such as developing the TDP as a national party, the party's performance in the recent elections, supporting the Centre in its efforts to check the price rise of essential commodities, power deficit and getting funds from the Centre for the projects in the State.
