January 2, 2014 - Rajahmundry, East Godavari
Allotment of houses to poor through draw lots led to clashes between the workers of TDP and Congress in Rajahmundry on Thursday.
Rajahmundry MLA Rowthu Suryaprakash Rao staged a rata roko to protest against the former TDP Minister Gorantla Butchiah Chowdary and his party supporters' attitude in stalling the process. Tension prevailed during the allotment at VAMBAY houses and both of them classed following heated arguments.
Women beneficiaries lodged a complaint with the South Zone DSP accusing TDP cadres of attacking them. TDP too lodged another complaint with the Bommuru police.
The cause of the trouble
The root cause of the trouble is when Suryaprakash Rao attended the programme of allotment of houses at Vambay housing complex when TDP cadres led by Gorantla Butchiah Chowdary arrived there and registered protest that houses were allotted to ineligible persons. Heated arguments took place resulting to clash.
Speaking to media, Gorantla Butchiah Chowdary alleged that the attack was pre-planned and alleged that VAMBAY houses to endowments land were allotted to ineligible persons and supporters of Congress got a major chunk, he said.
