Supreme Court stays High Court order on TTD allotment of land to staff
July 31, 2014 - Hyderabad
The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a judgment of Andhra Pradesh High Court upholding allotment of 100 acres of land belonging to Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy temple under the control of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam to its staff.
A bench comprising of Justices Anil R.Dave and Vikramajit Sen stayed the High Court order.
The petitioner contended that it was a well-established principle of law that an idol was perpetual minor and that the courts were its custodian and the property attached to the idol should be protected and preserved. He said that the resolution passed by TTD Board in October 2006 alienating 100 acres of lands and 45 acres of the Board land for its staff was against the Public Interest and did not satisfy any of the mandatory requirements.
The apex court after hearing the arguments has stayed the Andhra Pradesh High Court order.
