Supreme Court directs SEC to file affidavit within two days on ZPTC and MPTC polls


March 12, 2014 - Hyderabad

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the State Election Commission to submit the concerns of political parties on ZPTC and MPTC polls as they were preoccupied with Municipal, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

State Election Commission Secretary Navin Mittal speaking to media on Wednesday said the SEC will be meeting with all political parties on Thursday to ascertain their views on elections.

SEC invites 17 political parties

He said that a communication was sent to them to all the 17 recognised political parties. We will consider their views and submit a report to the Supreme Court by March 14 evening', said Navin Mittal.

Mittal said that this will not affect the nomination filing process from March 17 as the schedule was already notified. Sources said that the Supreme Court has vacations form March 15 to 24 and the Supreme Court has vacations from March 15 to 24 and as such the nomination process would not be affected.

Giving details of nominations filed so far for municipal elections, the SEC secretary said that so far 731 nominations have been filed in 22 districts of which 530 were form candidates of political parties and the rest from Independents.
