Supreme Court directs film actor Mohan Babu to remove 'Padmasri' title

The Supreme Court on Friday directed film actor and producer Mohan Babu to file his counter and remove 'Padmasri title' before his name.
Mohan Babu had filed a special leave petition in Supreme Court challenging the verdict of the High Court. They submitted to the Court that they never misutilized the titles they were conferred by the Government of India.
It may be recalled that the AP High Court in the first week of February directed the Union Home Ministry to send a recommendation to the President of India for cancellation of the Padma Sri awarded conferred on Mohan Babu in 2007. A Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice KJ Sen Gupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar while dealing with a Public Interest Litigation petition filed by BJP leader N Indrasena Reddy on the cancellation of the conferred on the actors Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam. The petitioner on January 26 filed an additional affidavit submitting that the script of a movie 'Jhummandi Naadam' was signed by Mohan Babu as the sole proprietor of Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures and his name is prefixed with 'Padma Sri'.
