Stage set for polling - Election Commission imposes ban on opinion polls

The State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal addressing a media conference on Monday said that the campaigning for the second phase of polling in Seemandhra ended on Monday evening.
Bhanwar Lal said that 48 hour ban on any election related campaign will be in force till 6pm on Wednesday. He said elections would be held for 175 Assembly and 25 MP seats on May 7. He said that neither the political parties should hold any election related meetings nr the electronic media, radio and cinema halls should display any lection matter. He added that the Election Commission also banned opinion polls by television channels in the next 48 hours .
The CEO said that the distribution of voter slips has been completed and in urban areas it would be completed by Tuesday morning. Either photo voter slip or identify proof were enough provided the voter's name was in the voters' list, he said.
Polling will take place in 165 Assembly constituencies from 7am to 6pm and in the ten Naxal affected constituencies, polling will be held from 7am to 4pm in Araku and Paderu in Kurupam, Parvathipuram, Salur, Rampachodavaram, Pedakurapadu, Vinukonda, Gurajala and Macharla, it will be held till 5pm.
