Seven Congress MLCs join TDP giving jolt to parent party

In another shock to the Congress party, as many as seven MLCs on Saturday joined Telugu Desam Party in presence of its president Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
The MLCs who joined the TDP are KVV Satyanarayana Raju, Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, B Pullaiah (all teachers constituency), Ravi Varma, B.Indira, Sheik Hussain (Governor's quota) and Lakshmi Siva Kumari (MLA quota). While another MLC Reddappa Reddy reportedly conveyed his willingness to join the party. Interestingly, these MLC earlier in the day have attended the Congress Legislative Party meeting in the Legislative Council.
In the 50 member House, Congress has nine MLCs elected by the Assembly legislators and four form Local Authorities constituencies seven MLCs belong to the TDP. There are seven members nominated by the Governor. There are seven vacancies from the Local Authorities Constituencies and one from the MLA quota.
APCC president Raghuveera reacts
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy reacting sharply over the switchovers demanded them to quit the posts immediately before making switchovers. 'It is shameful that the TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu is encouraging defections. All those in the TDP are not true party one but those who have defected from other parties', said Raghuveera Reddy.
