Sabbam Hari opting out of contest receives criticism

May 6, 2014 - Visakhapatnam

Jai Samaikyandhra Party nominee for Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency Sabbam Hari withdrew from the contest citing Supreme Court's refusing to stay the proceedings of the bifurcation of the State. Sabbam Hari while announcing that he is opting out of the contest has announced his backing to NDA candidate and BJP state president Kambhampati Hari Babu. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Hari said that the JSP has entered the elections on the ground that it will stop bifurcation of the State. Now with the Apex court refusing to grant a stay, he said that he believes there are no chances in stopping the process.

Receives criticism from other parties

The withdrawal decision of Sabbam Hari has left the CPI(M) party fuming. The CPI(M) that supported the JSP in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle with a view to oppose the BJP has immediately decided to back the YSRCP candidates in these two constituencies. The State Executive Committee member Ch. Narasinga Rao announced in a media conference said that they had Sabbam Hari to at least inform the party of his decision.

Election Commission slap two cases against Sabbam Hari

Meanwhile, State Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal said that two cases will be registered against Sabbam Hari. He said that they will be issuing notice for violation of Section 126 of Representation of People's Act, 1951 and the complaint will be forwarded to the Election Commission. Bhanwar Lal said that the facilities extended to Sabbam Hari as a contesting candidate would be withdrawn immediately and the expenditure incurred by him so far would be credited to the main party in whose favour he had withdrawn from the contest.
