Four Social Welfare Residential Government Colleges to come up

The State Government has prepared plans for setting up of four Social Welfare Residential Government Degree colleges for the benefit of SC students at Guntur, Nellore, Anatapur and Srikakulam.

Already these are in operational at Kanchikacherla in Vijayawada, Kalikiri and Chitoor and the government searching for suitable lands for establishing the residential government colleges from 2013.

The cost of setting up each college will be around Rs.35 crore and will need 20 acres of land. The funds will be drawn from the SC/ST sub-plan according to sources.

Proposals are being prepared to open three tribal welfare residential degree colleges for girls and approval for the same is expected to be given soon. There are 146 degree colleges exist in the States of which only one is a residential college.
