'Rahul Gandhi's loan waiver offer irresponsible', says Jayaprakash Narayan
April 26, 2014 - Hyderabad
Jayaprakash Narayan wanted to know whether this officer would be applicable to the farmers in Seemandhra as well as Telangana. Speaking to media, he questioned who would foot the bills of such waivers. He also questioned whether any homework has been done on the implications of such offer and whether the Congress had consulted the RBI. The Lok Satta Party chief also questioned whether Congress has the authority to announce such a decision that disrupts the economy.
Jayaprakash expressed apprehensions as to what would happen if the RBI imposes a freeze on grant of bank loans to people in the State. He took serious exception to the government's credit indiscipline.
It may be recalled that Rahul Gandhi addressing a public meeting at Madikonda in Andhra Pradesh, said "Even if the heavens fall, we will implement our promise and waive farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh in Telangana."
