Police register fresh case on GAIL authorities

The death toll in the gas pipeline explosion has risen to 16 with one more case of death reported on Sunday. The authorities has suspended two officials of the cadre of Assistant General Manager and action is likely to be initiated on another official according to sources.

East Godavari Superintendent of Police G Vijay Kumar said that the condition of the six injured who sustained 80 per cent burns in the explosion is still critical. He said a baby girl undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kakinada died and the death toll rose to 17. The SP said that a case has been registered under Sec.304A (causing death by negligence), Sec.338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of other) and Sec.286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of IPC. It may be recalled that the police on Saturday registered a case under Sec.174 of Cr.P.C.
