NDTV opinion poll shows TDP and BJP gaining from alliance

April 14, 2014 - Hyderabad

The partnership of Telugu Desam and Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming elections is a win-win for both parties, as they are expected to win 15 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Seemandhra. In the latest opinion poll conducted by NDTV and Hansa Research, TDP+BJP has a lead of 6 seats over YSR Congress who are expected to win 9 seats.

Congress party is likely to los 20 seats and will be able to manage to win just one seat, says the poll. The alliance with TDP is a big boost for BJP as they are not very popular in the Seemandhra region. The opinion poll conducted by NDTV in february showed YSR Congress poised to win 15, but the alliance between TDP and BJP is going to affect their prospects.

Congress party which won 21 seats from Seemandhra in 2009 elections will suffer from the decision to bifurcate the State. Many of the senior leaders of the party have deserted to rival parties like Telugu Desam and YSR Congress. Former Congress Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy too left the party to launch his own political outfit Jai Samaikyandhra.

Opinion Poll

  • TDP + BJP = 15
  • YSR Congress = 9
  • Congress = 1
