'Municipal Elections will be held on March 30', says SEC Ramakanth Reddy


March 3, 2014 - Hyderabad

The State Election Commissioner Ramakanth Reddy on Monday released the Election Schedule for Municipal Elections in the State.

He said that the Municipal Elections will be held across the State on March 30 in all 146 Municipalities and 10 Municipal Corporations. The polling will be held from 7am to 5pm. From March 3, 2014 the election code comes into effect. The results will he announced on April 2.

Nominations will be accepted from March 10 and will conclude on March 14. Elections will he held on party symbols and as many as 11,000 EVM s will be used for the process, said Ramakanth Reddy.

It may be recalled here that the elections were to be held from September 2010 and have been postponed on various counts. The High Court has been serious over the delay and directed to conduct elections within four weeks.

High Court expresses seriousness over delay

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday became serious over the delay in conducting the poll. The court found fault for not implementing the Court orders of conducting the elections within one month time. The court ordered the government to submit status report to the advocate general.

Election Schedule

  • Nominations will be accepted from March 10 to 13 in Corporations and in Municipalities from March 10 to 14
  • Last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 18
  • Counting of votes will be taken up on April 2
  • Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elections will be held on April 7, 2014.
