Modi wave has no effect in Rayalaseema

May 16, 2014 - Hyderabad

YSR Congress Party could win with flying colours in Rayalaseema in spite of the much talk of Narendra Modi wave across the country. The Modi factor has little effect in Kadapa, Kurnool and Chittoor districts of Rayalaseema where the YSR legacy reigned supreme.

The TDP-BJP alliance and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan's support had little impact in these districts but seemed to have worked in Anantapur district and to some extent in Chittoor district. However, Naidu-Modi alliance could not ensure the victory of any BJP candidate in the four districts of Rayalaseema. BJP MP candidates from Rajampet and Tirupati former Union Minister D Purandeswari and K Jayaram had bite the dust.

YSR Congress Party won in Kadapa – Avinash Reddy, Rajampet- P Mithun Reddy, Tirupati-V Varaprasada Rao, Kurnool- B Ranuka and Nandayl-SPY Reddy parliamentary constituencies while TDP won in Chittoor, Anantapur and Hindupur Lok Sabha seats.
