Medical seat cancellation attracts Rs.1 lakh fine

The Counselling for MBBS and BDS seats in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State have commenced on Saturday in five centres.
The counselling venues are NTRUHS Administrative Building in Vijayawada, JNTU campus at Kukatpally in Hyderabad, School of Distance Education of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, old MBA Building of Sri Venkateswara University and Online Counselling Centre of Kakatiya University at Warangal.
The Vice Chancellor of Dr.NTR University of Health Sciences Dr.T Ravi Raju said that it has decided to collect Rs.1 lakh as cancellation fee from medical students who cancel the seat allotted to them to join better college at a later time.
NTRUHS announced that free text books would be distributed by the university for the first 200 students who joined through counselling. The VC said that 5990 seats – 2600 in Government and 3,200 in private colleges were to be filled up during the counselling. For BDS, there were 2,380 seats (240 in government and 2,140 in private medical colleges) have to be allotted in 26 Dental Colleges.Activists of Progressive Democratic Students’ Union demonstrated outside the counselling Centre demanding withdrawal of 15 per cent seats under NRI quota and wanted immediate withdrawal of GO 120.
