  • Noted social activist Suraiya Hassan Bose presented the Yudhvir Memorial Award
    Noted social activist Suraiya Hassan Bose was presented the 23 Yudhvir Memorial award by the Yudhvir Foundation at a function organized on Thursday for her contribution to the handloom industry. Speaking on the occasion, she expressed concern that there were no values in today's politics as a large amount of money is being used to bribe voters and wanted something had to be done to bring a change in the present situation. She said 16 lakh children died of starvation last year in the country and about three lakh new-borns die annually due to malnutrition. These figures are decreasing when compared to previous years but even then the issue is serious.
  • Rs.100 crore temple complex to come up
    HYDERABAD: Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad is set to being construction of an ambition Rs.100 crore temple complex and culture centre at Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple premises at Banjara Hills from Friday the day of Akshaya Tritiya.     KAKINADA: Jana Sena founder and cine actor Pawan Kalyan will address a public meeting on Friday. Former Minister and TDP nominee for Kakinada Lok Sabha seat Tota Narasimham said that the actor would address a public meeting on Ananda Bharati grounds on Cinema road in the evening in which leaders from TDP, BJP and members of Jana Sena would participate. TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu would address public meeting at Thondangi, Pithapuram and Samalkota on Saturday He will tour the district by helicopter and address public at different places.

    BHIMAVARAM: Former Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao joined the BJP in the presence of prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. He was formally admitted into the party by draping a saffron 'kanduva' around his shoulders. It may be recalled that Sambasiva Rao was in Congress for five decades and represented Eluru in the Lok Sabha for two consecutive terms.
  • TDP chief writes to Election Commission
    HYDERABAD: The TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu in a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner alleged that the YSRCP leaders were planning violence, intimidation and bribery of voters in constituencies that were going to polls on May 7. There were instances of the YSRCP distribution cash to voters in some constituencies and the EC should deploy special squads to unearth illicit liquor dumps and arrest the aggressors, said Naidu.

  • Home coming ends tragic to Parchuri Swathi :
    The end came to Parchuri Swathi came in the form of bomb blast that occurred at Chennai Central Railway station on Thursday morning in the form of a bomb blast. Swathi (24) who joined the TCS at Bangalore in January this year after her first visit to home town after landed into a job to spend time with family. She is working for TCS at Bangalore. Her grandmother Rajyalakshmi said that Swathi told us she had booked the ticket through Tatkal since the reservations were not available. Swathi parents Parchuri Ramakrishna and Kamakshi residing at Srinagar (Guntur) rushed to Chennai aftr they broke the news.
  • Cash over Rs.4.5crore seized due to eElection raids
    RAJAHMUNDRY: The East Godavari District Collector Neetu Prasad said in a statement that cash over Rs.4.5crore cash, liquor and other materials have been seized from various persons as part of election raids in the district. The Collector advised the people to carry proof while carrying huge amounts. She said 4,056 polling stations will be set up in the district for the Lok Sabha election in three constituencies – Amalapuram, Rajahmundry and Kakinada and 19 Assembly seats to be held on May 7. There are 37,98,181 voters in the district and added that 18,200 employees have exercised their franchise through 'postal ballot' in the three parliamentary constituencies as they are appointed in several parts of the district.

    HYDERABAD: Former DGP and YSRC Malkajgiri Lok Sabha candidate V Dinesh Reddy on Wednesday created a flutter when he entered the polling booth at Hyderabad Public School, Ramanthapur with nearly 50 party workers and the police personnel positioned there at did not raise any objection.
