  • Poll violation Rs.58 crore seized
    HYDERABAD: An amount of Rs.58.54 crore has been seized till Tuesday in 23 districts by vigilance teams for violation of model code of conduct. Nellore district earned the dubious distinction for accounting for maximum cash seizure of Rs.10.02 crore followed by Ranga Reddy Rs.9.65 crore and Hyderabad at Rs.8.29 crore according to a release by the Chief Electoral Officer. The release said that 4,000 persons were bund down in Nellore district alone and 83,302 cases were booked for violations.
  • High Court adjourns petition seeking stay on local body polls
    HYDERABAD: Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao of the AP High Court on Tuesday adjourned by a week the writ petition filed seeking stay on elections for the urban local bodies and MPTC and ZPTCs or postpone the announcement of results till the general elections are completed. The case was filed by V Pawan Kumar who said that as per the code of conduct and directions of the Election Commission of India, the surveys indicating the choice of voters in the run-up to elections is prohibited from the date of announcement of schedule.
  • Lok Satta Party chief assails TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao
    HDYERABAD: Lok Satta Party national president Dr. Jayaprakash Narayana lashed out TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao for justifying dynastic politics at a press conference on Tuesday. He said that the Constitution, democracy and elections would become meaningless if family rule is deemed as a birth right. He said that it was not confined to our State but pointed out that as many as 167 member of outgoing Lok Sabha members owe their position to their family political lineage.
  • Jai Samaikyandhra Party first list of candidates likely
    Jai Samaikyandhra Party will likely to release 60 candidates on Wednesday. According to sources, JSP chief Kiran Kumar Reddy is busy in giving final touches to the list. According to a senior leader said 'it is learnt that some of the party leaders who are likely to cross over to other may play the waiting game for now. Once the TDP-BJP tie up is formalized, we may see some more desertions from the party. It may be noted that Dr.S Sailajanath made it clear that he will not leave the party', said a leader.
  • Former Minister Pithani likely to sail with TDP
    ELURU: Former Minister for Social Welfare Pithani Satyanarayana seems to be preparing with Telugu Desam Party. Insiders' from his camp said that his joining TDP was only a formality and a decision would come in a couple of days. It may be recalled tht he was in touch with the TDP MP CM Ramesh. He was said to have been toying with the idea of switching over since re-election on the fledgling JSP ticket was unsure.
  • YSRCP chief announces candidates
    VISAKHAPATNAM: YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy who commenced his tour in the district on Tuesday at Narsipatnam announced Gudivada Amarnath, son of former minister Gudivada Gurunatha Rao would be party candidate from Anakapalli Lok Sabha. Party's coordinator for Narsipatnam Assembly segment P Uma Shankar Ganesh would contest for Assembly.
