  • CPI secretary K Aruna taken into preventive custody
    ONGOLE: The CPI Prakasam district secretary K Aruna was taken into preventive custody fearing disruption of Union Minister Jairam Ramesh's visit to town. She has been fighting a legal battle against the Centre's decision to locate the second major port sanctioned for the State at Dugarajapatnam very close to Pulicat Lake instead of Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district. She was let off after the Union Minister left the city.
  • CPI and CPM join hands for Vijayawada Municipal elections
    VIJAYAWADA: The CPI and CPI (M) have decided to join hands and contest the city corporation polls together in 50 of the total 59 municipal elections. CPI will contest in 29 divisions while the rest by CPI (M). They left the 9 divisions to Lok Satta. They are eyeing on the Mayor's post.

    Shamshabad police have registered a case against Telangana Pradesh Congress president Ponnala Lakshmiah for conducting a rally in violation of model code of conduct.
  • Vehicle checks
    Nellore Police on Wednesday seized a whooping Rs.1.7 crore during vehicle checks across the State, the highest unaccounted money seized so far after notification for general elections was issue last week. Nearly Rs1 crore was seized from a person at Inamadugu village in Kovvur mandal of Nellore district. Police seized Rs.10.5 lakh from a motorist in Chittoor district and Rs.12.50 lakh from a car at Muttangi village in Medak district and Rs.5 lakh at Musunur in Krishna district.

    WARANGAL: TDP Narayanapeta MLA Y. Yella Reddy on Wednesday joined TRS party in presence of its president K Chandrasekhara Rao. Warangal district TDP women wing president Premalatha Reddy too joined the party. Students JAC leader Pidmarthi Ravi joined the party.
  • Conduct of elections is a challenge for police', says DGP
    VISAKHAPATNAM: Director General of Police B Prasada Rao speaking to press on Wednesday said that it is a challenge for the police personnel to conduct polls. He said greyhounds and para-military forces would be deployed in sensitive areas and counter action teams would be placed at Maoist influenced areas. The DGP said that with the permission of the Election Commission, the results of the Sub Inspectors test results.

    ABC officials on Wednesday caught Ramballi Sub Inspector of Police V Krishna Rao while accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000 from Ramballi auto union president Bhoopati Pandu.     Telangana NGOs association president Devi Prasad demanded the Government not to give options to the employees of Seemandhra. He said by offering this will give injustice to the employees of Telangana, said Devi Prasad.
