'Majority of the MLAs and MPs elected face criminal charges', says Forum for Good Governance

The Forum for Good governance that went through the antecedents of newly elected MLAs and MPs based on the affidavits filed by them said that nearly fifty per cent of the elected ones are facing criminal charges.
The Forum said that as many as 64 of the MLAs elected in Telangana and 82 in Seemandhra are facing criminal charges while TRS tops the list with 40 MLAs followed by TDP at 9, Congress 6, MIM 3, BJP 2 and others 3.
As far as MPs are concerned, 8 out of 17 elected in Telangana face charges. The TRS topped with 5 such MPs and there is one each from Congress, BJP and MIM.
In Seemandhra, out of the 175 elected representatives, TDP tops the list with 52 MLAs, YSRCP by second with 29 while no criminal cases were pending against four BJP MLAs while one from other category cases criminal charges. As far MPs are concerned, 11 out of 25 MPs from Seemandhra face criminal cases. TDP stood at the top with 15 MPs facing criminal cases followed by YSRCP at 4 and BJP 1.
No mechanism to check
The Secretary Padmanabha Raju of Forum for Good Governance said that there is no mechanism with the Election Commission to check whether the information furnished by the candidates is authentic. He said that the candidates did provide the full information. He said that setting up a mechanism for verification of criminal cases and that of assets and liabilities is required.
