Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao assumed as Governor of Maharashtra

Former BJP Union Minister and senior leader Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao on Saturday assumed charge as Governor of Maharashtra State.

The Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court Mohit Sahw administered the oath while Chief Secretary Swadhin Kshatriya read out the warrant of Rao's appointment issued by the President of India. The Chief Minister Prudviraj Chavan along with his cabinet colleagues attended the oath taking function.

Vidyasagar Rao has taken over from Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli who was given additional charge following the resignation of Sankaranarayanan after he was transferred to Mizoram.

Vidyasagar Rao (73) hails from Karimnagar district and served as Minister of State for Home in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government.

He had his schooling in Karimnagar and intermediate in Hyderabad and completed his graduation in Science from Maharashtra. He did LL.B from Osmania University in Hyderabad and was a practicing lawyer before he became active in the Jan Sangh.

He was elected thrice to the undivided Andhra Pradesh Assembly in 1985, 1989 and 1994 from Metpalli in his native Karimnagar. He was elected to the 12th and 13th Lok Sabha from Karimnagar and got a berth in Vajpayee Cabinet.
