Lok Sabha Speaker refers pepper spray incident to Privileges Committee

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Sunday referred Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal's pepper spray incident to the Privileges Committee.
The issue of the pepper spray incident in the Lok Sabha, which saw widespread outrage and condemnation, was today referred to the Privileges Committee that has got punitive powers.
A release of Lok Sabha secretariat said that the Speaker has referred the matters relating to incidents that happened on Thursday for examination and a report.
Senior Congress leader PC Chacko who head the 15 member committee has the power that include recommending imprisonment and expulsion among others.
It may be recalled here that the incident took place in Lok Sabha when AP State Reorganization Bill 2013 was introduced on last Thursday in which 16 Seemandhra MPs were suspended. Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal used pepper spray which said to be done for self-defence drove three MPs to hospital.
