  • Cooperative bank defrauded of Rs.3.18 crore
    ONGOLE: The Prakasam District Central Cooperative Bank has been defrauded of Rs.3.18 crore by an appraiser and loanee3s allegedly connivance with seven bank employees by producing imitation jewels and through underweighment. The Chairman of the bank lodged a complaint with the Tanuku police and demanded a thorough probe by the CBI or the State CB-CID in view of the serious nature of the economic offence.
    The Bank that came to know of the fraud during its internal audit could recover Rs.48 lakhs. He said that the matter has been taken up with the IG and DGP for early arrest of the offenders and added that all the seven employees were placed under suspension.
  • Fill IAS, IPS vacancies
    HYDERABAD: President of the AP State Backward Classes Welfare Association and TDP MLA R Krishnaiah has urged the Prime Minister to see that vacancies of 1,457 IAS and 1,042 IPS officers in Central/State Governments were filled up. In a letter to the Prime Minister, he said that there was a need for at least 100 IAS and 80 IPS officers.
  • Five killed in boat capsize
    RAJAHMUNDRY: Five persons drowned in river Godavari in Dowleswaram near Rajahmundry s the country boat in which they were travelling capsized late on Tuesday evening. Three bodies were fished out and search was on for others. The five including to two families hailed from Korukonda in East Godavari district. The tragic incident occurred when they came to Dowleswaram to attend marriage and after attending the function, they visited the nearby islands and started their return journey.
  • EdCET preliminary key released
    VISAKHAPATNAM: Preliminary key of Education Common Entrance Test (EdCET) 20141 was released on website on Tuesday. Candidates can go through the preliminary key in all the five methodologies and submit their objections, if any, by 5pm on June 10 said EdCET convenor Nimma Venkata Rao.

    HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party has expressed satisfaction over the Union Government and the Planning Commission fulfilling its commitment to accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh following bifurcation of the State. LSP national president Dr Jayaprakash Narayan in a release said that it was his party that proposed grant of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

  • Janardhana Reddy elected as TCLP leader
    HYDERABAD: K. Janardhana Reddy was elected ass Telangana Congress Legislative Party leader. The elections were held in presence of party observers Digvijay Singh and Vayalar Ravi. Speaking after the meeting, Janardhana Reddy thanked the members for electing him as leder of the party and added that it would play a constructive role in the development of Telangana State.   • Union Cabinet condoles death of Munde
    The Union Cabinet that met at 4pm on Tuesday condoled the death of Union Minister Gopinath Munde. The Government has decided that the national flag will be flown half-mast in Delhi and capitals of State and Union Territories today as mark of respect to the leader.
  • YSRCP chief congratulates people of Telangana
    HYDERABAD: YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday congratulated the people of Telangana on the formation of the new State. He said that the Telugu people will stay united and will cooperate mutually. "I congratulate each and every individual of Telangana on the occasion of the formation of the new state and wish Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao all the best in steering the state towards development and assure that our party will extend all support for the government's constructive agenda," he said after the national flag was unfurled at the party office here. "We tried to keep the state united but eventually it was split, but the division of Telugu people is not possible as they speak the same language and I hope they will take forward the rich heritage of the language and will help each other mutually," Reddy said.
  • CII delegation calls on Telangana Chief Minister
    HYDERABAD: A high-level delegation by Confederation of India Industry (CII) president Ajay.S Shriam called on the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao on Monday and discussed various aspects concerning industry. It is told that the Chief Minister has assured the delegation to address their problems. FAPCCI has congratulated KCR on assuming as Chief Minister.   • Prime Minister assures all support to Telangana Government
    The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday while congratulating K Chandrasekhara Rao of the State assured all support to the newly formed Telangana State Government. Narendra Modi tweeted, 'India gets a new state. We welcome Telangana as our 29th State. Telangana will add strength to our development journey in the coming years. Telangana's birth comes after years of struggle and sacrifices by several people. We pay our respects to them today'.

  • Union Minister Gopinath Munde dies in road accident
    The Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Gopinath Munde on Tuesday died in a road accident.The road accident occurred at Motibagh. The accident occurred at 6.30am while he was on way to Indira Gandhi International Airport to take a flight to Mumbai. Severally injured Munde was rushed at Safdargang hospital and was immediately moved to AIIMS trauma centre. He died while he was on treatment at 8am.
  • Passenger pushed of Trainee Ticket Collector from running train
    KHAJIPET: A trainee ticket Examiner Vijaya Kumar was pushed out of a running train by passengers near Kazipet in the early hours of Tuesday following he fined them for travelling without valid tickets. The TTE is on the job in the Delhi bound Kerala Express. The condition of the TTE is said to be critical who was rushed to a hospital at Hanumakonda.

  • TDLP to elect Chandrababu Naidu on June 4
    Telugu Desam Legislative Party (TDLP) meeting that will be held on June 4 at Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam campus where they will elect the leader and it is only a formality.   • Tamil Nadu Governor greets Chandrasekhara Rao
    CHENNAI: Governor K Rosaiah on Monday greeted K Chandrasekhara Rao on assuming office as the first Chief Minister of Telangana State.
