Committee formed to curb sand mining
VIZIANGARAM: To curb illegal sand quarrying, the district administration has decided to initiate action under WALTA.

Joint Collector B Rama Rao said that they constituted a committee with tahsildrs, station house officer, panchayat secretaries and officials of Ground Water, RWS and Mines Department at mandal level and sarpanch, panchayat secretary and VRO at village level to arrest illegal sand mining.

The Joint Collector said that a penalty of Rs.5,000 per tractor, Rs.15,000 per 10 tonne capacity truck and Rs.25,000 for trucks above 10 tonnes. Will be levied.

Lightning claims four lives
SRIKAKULAM: Lightening claimed four lives in Srikakulam district on Tuesday. According to police, two women identified as Narayanamma and Papamma were struck by lightning in Kaligam village of Kotturu mandal. Another women, Annapurnamma was killed in BC Colony of the same village. A man, identified as P Mallesh was killed in Venugopalapuram near Mandasa.

Cash award for Santoshi
HYDERABAD: Minister for Sports K Atchannanaidu said that Andhra Pradesh Government announced a cash award of Rs.5 lakh to weightlifter Matsa Santoshi who bagged bronze medal in the 53 category event at the Commonwealth Games. Santoshi hails from Viziangaram district.

Pushpak Airliner bus burnt while on way
HYDERABAD: A bus belonging to Pushpak Airport liner operated by RTC was burnt while on way to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the wee hours of Monday. However nearly five passengers were in the bus at the time of accident and were brought down by the alert driver. Sources said that the flames engulfed the entire bus and was gutted and the accident occurred is reportedly due to electrical short-circuit.

Police arrests two women in a kidney racket
VIJAYAWADA: The police on Tuesday arrested five persons including two women in a kidney racket case. They alleged forged the signature of the Sub-collector and MRO.

Two employees from AP were kidnapped
ASSOM: Two employees Raghu and Pradeep from Vijworking for Ratna Construction company was said to have been kidnapped by Bodo militants. The kidnappers demanded Rs.20 crore for their safe release, according to sources.
