Jana Sena Party may field candidates independently
April 17, 2014 - Hyderabad
The denial of TDP ticket to Potluri Vara Prasad for Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency didn't go well with Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan. It was Pawan who recommended the candidature of Vara Prasad for Vijayawada Lok Sabha to the Telugu Desam Party. As Vara Prasad was snubbed by the TDP, Jana Sena Party is now thinking of contesting from seven Lok Sabha constituencies.
Source close to the Jana Sena Party said that they had discussed the possibility of fielding candidates as independents without causing any loss to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The number of seats in which they are likely to be fielded also cropped up in the discussion between Pawan Kalan and the ticket aspirants.
It is an open secret that Potluri Vara Prasad is disappointed over being denied ticket and supporters have urged him to file nomination as independent with the aim of defeating TDP's candidate Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) in the election.
Pawan Kalyan had earlier announced that the party has no plans to field candidates as he would not like the anti-Congress votes to get split. He earlier said that the party is making ground work to contest the 2019 elections. Sources close to Pawan Kalyan said that the party is now considering to field candidates as independents where there BJP is not contesting.
