High Court issues notices to GAIL and Centre

The High Court has ordered issuance of notices to Central Government and Gas Authority of India Limited while dealing with a petition seeking direction for immediate shifting of pipelines to an isolated place.
A Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar while dealing with a petition filed by Dr.RS Ratnakar, a resident of Nagaram village in East Godavari.
It may be recalled that a gas leakage incident at Nagaram village of Mamidikuduru mandal of East Godavari district in which 21 persons lost lives. It may be recalled here that the tragic incident that happened on June 27. The petitioner averred that GAIL has established a CGS in Tatipaka village of the district and the ONGC has also set up a low capacity refinery at the village. The GAIL had lid a pipeline from Tatipaka to Kondapalli at Vijayawada through several villages and habitation. The petitioner alleged that leakage of gas from the pipelines is a common feature due to the poor maintenance and wanted immediate shifting to an isolated place.
