AP High Court directs to conduct a fresh probe into the liquor syndicate scam

March 9, 2014 - Hyderabad

Giving relief to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the investigating agency to conduct a fresh probe into the liquor scam and said that the State Government cannot deny permission to prosecute an official based on his/her explanation.

Founding fault with the Government for adopting a strange practice of inviting explanations, the court said that the State had no business seeking explanations. It said that 'from now you have to take a decision on whether or not to accord permission for prosecution within three months on all such cases pending with you. If the accused are aggrieve, they have the option of challenging the FIR', said the Court.

It may be noted here that that for the last nine years the agency is waiting for permission in 145 trap cases and 60 dis-appropriate assets cases. Since it is clear from the Court, the Agency will intensify its course of action.
