January 28, 2014 - Hyderabad

A Division Bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court comprising of Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sen Gupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday directed the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) to submit board resolutions and details of passes issued on Vaikunta Ekadasi day.

The directions from the Court came when it was dealing with a writ petition filed by TDP leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav who alleged that the TTD had issued thousands of passes in the name of VIP that created chaos to common devotees. He sought for a probe by an independent agency.

The Bench asked the petitioner to bear the expenditure for giving newspaper advertisements in States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in prominent newspapers informing the devotees about this case so that the persons who suffered on that day in Tirumala can come to the court. The court adjourned the case by three weeks.

It may be recalled here that TTD has to withdraw cases that it filed on the devotees who staged dharna before the office of the Chairman of the TTD after a hue and cry by various political parties. The State Human Rights Commission also directed the TTD to submit a report.

It may be recalled that the TTD had filed cases against devotees in the Tirupati Two Town Police station for staging sit-in dharna and protests before the camp office of the Chairman of the TTD on January 11. The action of the TTD gained all round criticism from all political parties and common devotees that drove them to knock the doors of SHRC that directed the Principal Secretary of Endowments to file a report on it by January 30.It may be recalled here that Tollywood hero Shivaji had come to the rescue of the devotes by raising his voice against TTD. BJP Sate president G Kishan Reddy wanted an apology from TTD to the devotees and wanted the Board to be 'cleansed' and filled up with non-political persons. Congress leaders V Hanumantha Rao said that he would seek information on RTI on the issuance of passes and TDP leader Gali Mudduma Krishnam Naidu alleged that VIPs passes were sold at exorbitant rates in black market and TV channels and media out cried the deeds of TTD.
